State Testing

All across the state students will be sitting down to do MAP and EOC testing over the next few weeks. In fact our sophomores started yesterday with the first session of the ELA 2 EOC. EOC stands for End of Course test and our school participates by taking the EOC for Algebra I, Biology, English Language Arts II, and Government.

The MAP test (Missouri Assessment Program) is taken by students in grades 3rd through 8th grade, but not every subject is taken at each grade level. Eighth grade takes the most.

Because of the pandemic we did not take these test in Spring of 2019 and 2020. We did take the test for the first time last year, but they didn't "count." The Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) does say that this year the test will "count," but we don't really know how this years scores will be used. However these scores are used it is important for us to know how our students perform. It is important for us to know where are student are, or what they know and don't know. We also want our school to be well represented and these assessments are how we are compared to other schools across the state. For this reason we need your help to have your child ready to perform to the best of their ability.

Here are a few things students can do to perform well...

  • Get a good nights rest.
  • Arrive early and prepared so you can take a moment to relax.
  • Listen to and follow the instructions.
  • Read carefully, directions, questions, and ALL answers before answering.
  • Use your time wisely, don't hurry, but don't overthink either.
  • Look for clues within the questions.
  • Answer ALL of the questions.

This week we will get started, but next week will be really busy, so please plan ahead and make sure your child takes them seriously and does their best. That is all we ask.

Thanks:)
